The zoo was first founded in 1926 by Spencer Penrose, who was inspired to collect animals after being gifted a bear. Initially, the animals were housed at Penrose’s Broadmoor Hotel, but after a monkey bit a guest, he decided to relocate them to their own home, resulting in the creation of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
One of the zoo’s most popular attractions is the incredible giraffe herd. Guests are able to come face-to-face with these magnificent animals, petting and feeding them from elevated pathways.
