The city is also home to the Iron Mountain Open Space, a scenic area. This area supports single-family residential development. The area is accessible from Manitou Avenue. The extension of the open space would allow more homes in the community, while maintaining the existing trail system. However, there is a high potential for wildfire.
Visiting the Pikes Peak Cog Railway is another way to explore the region. The Cog Railway offers scenic rides to the top of the mountain and includes a summit house recently renovated.
